About Ho

The "Oxygen City"

Ho, the capital of Ghana's Volta Region, is widely renowned for its cultural richness, natural beauty, and steady urban development. The city is often referred to as the "Oxygen City" because of its fresh air, greenery, and breathtaking serenity. Surrounded by rolling hills and expansive vegetation, Ho offers a calm and refreshing atmosphere that distinguishes it from many of the country's busier commercial centres.

Ho holds significant cultural importance within the Volta Region. Borborbor -a lively traditional music and dance style of the Ewe people -is one of the most well-known cultural expressions from the area, characterised by rhythmic drumming, coordinated dance movements, and call-and-response singing. The performance embodies unity, storytelling, and collective identity.

Cultural women of the Volta Region

Ho's cultural vibrancy is complemented by its proximity to major natural attractions including Wli Waterfalls, Mount Afadja (Afadjato), and the Tafi Atome Monkey Sanctuary. With improving infrastructure and a welcoming local community, Ho provides a secure, serene, and culturally immersive experience for visitors.

Practical Tips

Tips for Your Journey

1

Plan Ahead

Accommodations and transport options can fill up quickly around major events. Book your hotel or guest house early. Use Google Maps or ask for guidance before you set off — search "Ho Technical University" for accurate directions.

2

Travel Light (But Smart)

Pack light clothing, a raincoat or umbrella (it might drizzle), toiletries, an ID card, and summit essentials — notebook, pen, and laptop. Bring a power bank and extension cords to keep your devices charged throughout the day.

3

Money Matters

Carry enough cash, especially smaller denominations, as mobile money or card payments may not be accepted at all locations. MTN and Telecel have good coverage in the area for mobile money transactions.

4

Health & Safety

Pack your medications and emergency contact information if you have any medical conditions. Drink bottled or treated water, avoid unfamiliar foods if you have a sensitive stomach, and wear comfortable footwear for walking around campus.

5

Connectivity

MTN and Telecel generally have strong mobile data service in Ho. Top up data in advance if you plan to work or stay connected online. Campus Wi-Fi may be available, but it is best to have your own backup.

6

Dress Comfortably & Respectfully

Casual but presentable attire is ideal for the summit. A light sweater may come in handy for chilly mornings or evenings.

7

Keep Contacts Handy

Save the numbers of your accommodation and emergency services. Keep the summit's help desk contact saved in case you need directions or assistance.
